Students interested in pursuing medical stream are increasing every year. Thus, the number of medical colleges are also increasing throughout India. Tamil Nadu is no exception to it. Medical colleges in Tamil Nadu are broadly classified into 3 categories – Deemed, Private & Government.
In India, there are around 560 medical colleges and 10 percent of it are in Tamil Nadu. Based on the geographical distribution of medical colleges, every major district in Tamil Nadu has at least one medical college in it. Chennai city has the highest number of medical colleges, making it the hotspot of doctors.
More than half of the medical colleges in Tamil Nadu are government owned. This makes MBBS in Tamil Nadu affordable for students as the college fee is less than a Lakh per year.
Medical Admission Eligibility
- Candidates must have completed at least 10+2 level of education with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects with English.
- The minimum score requirement may vary but General candidates must have scored at least 50% marks in the Intermediate examination.
- For candidates belonging to the reserved category, the minimum percentage required is 40%.
- The candidate needs to be a minimum of 17 years and a maximum of 25
- Candidates must also have qualified in National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam (NEET) for the mbbs admissions.
