MD/MS Admission process in India

  1. Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria set by the respective medical colleges or universities offering the MD/MS program. This usually includes completion of the MBBS degree from a recognized institution, fulfilling internship requirements, and achieving the minimum required percentage of marks.

  1. Entrance Examination: Candidates are required to appear for entrance examinations conducted at the national or state level. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) is the most common entrance exam for MD/MS admissions in India. It assesses the candidate’s knowledge and aptitude in medical subjects.

  1. Registration: Candidates need to register for the entrance exam by submitting the application form online or offline, depending on the conducting body. The form typically requires personal details, educational background, internship completion certificate, and other relevant information.

  1. Admit Card and Examination: After successful registration, candidates receive their admit cards, which contain details about the exam date, time, and venue. On the designated exam day, candidates appear for the entrance examination, following the instructions provided.

  1. Result and Merit List: Once the entrance exam is conducted, the conducting authority releases the results. Candidates can check their individual scores and ranks. Additionally, a merit list is prepared based on the performance of candidates, which determines their position for admission.

  1. Counseling Process: Qualified candidates are called for the counseling process, which involves choosing the preferred specialization and college based on the available seats and their merit rank. Counseling may be conducted at the national, state, or institutional level, depending on the governing body.

  1. Document Verification: During counseling, candidates are required to provide original documents, including academic certificates, internship completion certificate, entrance exam scorecard, identity proof, and other relevant documents. These documents are verified to ensure authenticity and eligibility.

  1. Seat Allotment: Based on the candidate’s rank, preference, and availability of seats, the counseling authority allocates seats in MD/MS courses. Candidates who receive seat allotments need to confirm their acceptance by submitting the required fees and completing the admission formalities within the stipulated time.

Reporting to College: Candidates need to report to the allocated college within the specified period, as instructed by the counseling authority. They must submit the necessary documents and complete the admission process, including payment of fees, to secure their seat.
