The Indian government has completely overhauled the country’s medical education system, which was necessary to bring about uniformity. As a result, the former AIPMT exam was replaced by the NEET UG Exam, which was administered by the National Testing Agency, in 2017. The Supreme Court had to consider nearly five years’ worth of petitions before deciding to abolish the AIPMT test. Aspirants currently receive their medical school seats for MBBS and dental school based on their NEET UG test ranking.

If we look at how MBBS seats are distributed across India, we find that the Southern region has the most seats, followed by the West, North, and East in that order. In comparison to Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the cutoff always tends to be higher in UP and Bihar due to the limited number of seats and greater number of applicants. Here is a diagram showing how many MBBS seats there are in each Indian state for further clarity:
MBBS Seats Trends in last 5 Years
In the past ten years, 51% of Government medical colleges (155 out of 306) and 38% of Private Medical Colleges (115 out of 301) have been founded. This figure represents about 45% of all medical colleges in India. While around 5.5 Lac more applicants took the NEET, which is more than 42%, there were just 19 Thousand additional seats introduced in the last 5 years, which is 26% of all seats. Being a doctor from an Indian government medical college is a distant goal due to the disparity between the number of applicants and seats available.

Indian Medical Colleges Teaching Experience
According to NMC requirements, you need a postgraduate degree to be a teaching faculty member in India. Only 10% of applicants for PG seats are accepted by government medical colleges ( 1.8 Lacs doctors applied for 15 K Govt Seats Non Clinical and 8K in Clinical in 2022). Any MD/MS Doctor would find teaching in medical colleges to be unappealing due to the average salaries. The colleges and universities with a good number of years of experience are always better when it comes to educational institutions, as is well known. They have knowledgeable instructors and a solid academic background.
Fee Structure of MBBS Colleges
When selecting a college, cost is an important consideration. The cost of a medical seat in India is determined by a number of variables, including whether the school is a government, private, or deemed university. It also depends on the type of seat, such as a management, government, or NRI seat. Even private medical schools allot a certain number of seats through government quotas, and the cost of these seats is considerably less than that of administrative positions in these schools. For NRI seats, the MBBS tuition in India is very expensive.
The indicated fees are the average tuition rates authorised by the state’s fee regulation commission for the various categories. It is significant to remember that there can be additional ancillary fees.
By clicking on a certain state name, you may get the fees for Govt Seats, Management Seats, and NRI Seats for all colleges in that state.

Reservation Policy in State Counseling 2022.
The candidate’s All India Rank in the NEET UG test will determine how many seats in any medical college are available. The caste and category of the applicant is another variable that affects the likelihood of seat allocation. For seats distributed through All India Counseling, the central government has established its reservation criteria. The constitutional legislation also permits the Indian states to use state quotas to allocate seats in accordance with their respective reservation policies.
As a result, during central and state counselling processes, a candidate belonging to a given caste or category is likely to fall into several reservation categories. Some states may additionally provide special reserves based on factors like geographic location, the status of a community as a minority, minority status based on language, dependents of active-duty military members, etc. in order to promote equality of opportunity in society. States like Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and others have reported such incidents. In the categories indicated above, many states, including Telangana, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, etc., additionally reserve seats for female applicants. Additionally, seats are been aside for applicants who fall under the PwD (Person with Disabilities) Quota.

Need to be Specialist or just MBBS is enough?
Every MBBS student learns during graduation that the MBBS degree is only a foundational degree and that it is very difficult for them to sustain themselves without a PG degree. Due to the significant discrepancy between the number of passing MBBS graduates and the number of available PG seats in government medical colleges, there is fierce rivalry for medical postgraduate programmes after obtaining an MBBS degree. Currently, 38 thousand seats are available in clinical and non-clinical streams across 436 medical institutions (13,400 in govt. colleges and 25,400 in private colleges), with 4,400+ seats in 179 colleges offering super specialties under DM/MCH programmes. Depending on the chosen Specialty, medical postgraduate tuition at a private medical college or deemed university can range from 1Cr to 3cr.
Due to the less competitive environment (chances to get Medical PG in USA are substantially higher than acquiring PG Seat in India! ), looking for Medical PG in USA (USMLE) is currently quite popular among medical students. Other benefits include the opportunity to work in a world-class healthcare system, exclusively merit-based hiring, and extremely high salaries. During your MBBS, you learn your prospects of getting a Medical PG in the US! Do you know that a Medical Postgraduate degree in the USA is not only free, but also results in a salary of 30-35 Lacs Indian Rupees? You can visit our Medical PG in USA (USMLE) page for more details.
